ROTARY CLUB OF CHENNAI VELACHERY GREEN VELACHERY PROJECT LAUNCHED

Press Release Summary: Rtn. G. Olivannan, the District Governor Nominee of the
Rotary International District 3230 launched the Green Velachery Project of the
Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery today at the MRTS Station of Velachery.

Press Release Body: Rtn. DGN G. Olivannan launched the ambitious Green Velachery
Project of the Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery at the MRTS Station of Velachery, on
Monday, 6th October 2008 at 5-00 p.m., in the presence of Rtn. K.S. Jayaraman,
District Chairman- Green Initiative.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Rakesh Chopra, the General Manager of Southern Railway,
inaugurated the new Car Shed at the MRTS Railway Station. The Rotarians present to
launch the Green Velachery Project participated in the inauguration function.

The Tree Planting started at about 5-00 p.m. All the senior departmental heads of
the Railways planted saplings. From the Rotary side, one sapling was planted
jointly by Rtn. K.R. Mukundhan, President of Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery, and
Rtn. B. Sree Kumar, Secretary. Another sapling was planted jointly by Rtn. M.
Viswanathan, Director-Community Services-Development and Rtn. S. Krishnamurthy,
Chairman-Green Velachery Project.

"We intend planting 5000 trees in Velachery under this Project, and we have also
planned to cover the 3 km stretch between the MRTS Station at Velachery and the MRTS
Station at Taramani in due course", said a beaming Rtn. M. Viswanathan, at the end
of the Event.
