Fresh Recruits welcomes fair pay for all temporary staff

Released on: June 10, 2008, 6:42 am

Press Release Author: Louise Isaacs/ Deep South Media Ltd

Industry: Human Resources

Press Release Summary: Leading south coast employment agency Fresh Recruits says
it’s long overdue that temporary workers are paid the same as permanent staff.

Press Release Body: Fresh Recruits employment agency in Dorset says it welcomes the
biggest ever shake-up in wages for temporary workers, which could end decades of
unfair pay.

Fresh Recruits says it wholly supports new legislation being proposed by Prime
Minister Gordon Brown in his draft Queen’s Speech, to create parity in the workplace
for temps.

If successful it would be the first time the pay of temps is safeguarded and in line
with their permanent counterparts.

Nuala Fox, temporaries’ manager at Fresh Recruits’ HQ in Bournemouth, Dorset, said:
“It tends to be larger employers who pay slightly less on temp salaries for lower
skilled roles.

“Although on the flip side skilled temp and contract staff will often earn
considerably more than a permanent member of the team.”

In announcing the new legislation Mr Brown, said: “Most people agree that it is not
fair that even after months in the job, agency workers can currently be paid less
than the staff they work alongside.

“We are committed to fairness in the workplace.”

This is also the first time the government has publicly given its views on domestic
legislation to protect agency workers, after abstaining during voting on Andrew
Miller’s Private Member’s Bill to offer temporary agency workers the same pay and
conditions as permanent staff.

Fresh Recruits turnover last year exceeded £720,000 and the company operates from a
25 mile radius from Bournemouth including Southampton and Dorchester.
