The NAWCWD is the premier research and development center within the Naval Air Systems Command, conducting basic and applied research of advanced technologies related to tactical naval air weapons systems.
The market for composite materials for use in aircraft and weapons systems is exponentially growing due to their inherent light-weight, mechanical strength, durability, conductivity, and other mechanical properties. LITMUS and the NAWCWD will investigate novel applications of the incorporation of carbon nanotubes and carbon nanofibers into various composite resin systems to develop further enhanced composite structures.
